Time to Rethink Old Ways

Sometimes it feels as if student success in today’s world is only about acquiring and exhibiting the knowledge, skills, and personal development needed to achieve multiple personal and education goals. But there’s so much more to our children and the dynamics of learning are complex. They extend well beyond the walls of a classroom. Families and communities have a great deal of influence and contribute largely to shaping and developing who children become beyond success in academics. All of these thoughts really only leave me (and I’d be willing to bet others) with more questions!

We know that its important for learners gain knowledge, develop personally, and acquire practical skills, as these are interrelated essentials for student success. Many schools have started to rethink their teaching methods, curricula, support services and technologies, all to better define student success. But really, engagement and wellbeing are pretty power predictors in themselves. As I shared earlier, I’m left with more questions than answers . . . hear are just a few. I’d love to hear some of yours.

  • How many schools across the United States are adopting radically different approaches to schooling children?
  • How much forward-thinking effort is being placed on our youngest learners and/or could we learn from the practices that are used?
  • What does the retooling process for developing teachers look like?
